Explain the merits of portion size terms of weight loss and health. Please discuss this in the context of your experiences in dieting.



- Basically a portion size is the amount of a food or a drink that is generally served. One may get either too little or too much of the nutrients that one needs if he or she eats more or less than the recommended serving size. Using smaller dinner ware and using one plate as a protein guide can be used as a measure to control the protein. Portion control can help us to lose weight wherein it depends on the process of controlling the food. Generally, pizza, pasta and meat contain hight calories. One should control to eat less solid and trans fats, salt, fast food, saturated fats added sugar and refined grains and learn to add more nutritious foods to the diet such as fruits and vegetables, healthy oils, lean protein, seafood low fat dairy and whole grain. Now coming to the personal experience in dieting I replaced fish (ie) sea food instead of chicken dishes. On the other hand I started consuming low fat dairy foods. One of the major advantages of portion control is better digestion as smaller meals will actually help to keep the body functioning properly. Portion sizes which are too large leads to improper digestion and discomfort and also eating small amount of food will help to lose weight. Dieting portion size or portion control has a lot of advantages. It helps to be consistent. Besides the benefits of consistency, portion size also has several other benefits. Coming to personal experience again, in my diet I stated using a small plate if compared to the previous one and later after some time decreased the plate size for the second time. I also started eating fruits and vegetables. I also avoided eating junk foods and fast food.


Therefore, to summarize the merits of portion size in terms of weight loss and health, taking control of portion size will actually have a positive effect on the blood sugar control, proper digestion; stay energized throughout the day and finally weight and digestive health.
