The poem 'On Children' is written by Khalil Gibran. This fantastic poem which is written by Khalil Gibran is extracted from his famous collection of poem 'The Prophet'.
This poem begins with a women wherein the poet describes the women as holding her child against her bossom wherein the women asks prophet for his advice on rising her children. Further to her question, the prophet describes his views in a poetic manner.
The poem "On children is all about how the parenthood is done. The prophet says that parenting is a selfless act. Firstly, he says that their children are not really their children, but they are son and daughters of the life longing to itself. Further he says though the children came through them, but they do not come from them. Yet the children live with their parents but they do not belong to them. In addition to it, the prophet says that the parents can only house their children's bodies but they cannot house their souls because their souls love to dwell in the house of tomorrow. Here, it's means that the children are nothing but the future and the parents are the past. Further the poet added that the parents can give their ideas to their children but the parents should not give them their thoughts. This is because the children have their impeachable individuality. The life does not go backwards. The parents are bow and children are living arrows wherein parents should bend gladly, so that the children moves swiftly. In curtness the archer is happy with both the bow that is stable and arrow that is swift. Here, the bow is parents, arrow is their children and the archer is God.
