Kuvempu (Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa) was born on 29 December 1904 in Kuppalli which is located in Thirthahalli taluk. He received the Jnanpith Award and he was the first Kannada writer to receive the Jnanpith Award.
The poet strongly believes that heaven is nowhere else but on earth itself. He questions as to where else heaven can be when we are all surrounded by the majestic beauty of nature all around us. He says that the heavenly nymphs аre not elsewhere, but on earth itself. He also says if we ourselves cannot be Gods, then there are no Gods.
He says that things like the roaring streams while rushing fast, rolling surf on the edge of waves, when the tender sunshine leans on verdant gardens and then the gentle sun makes this earth look like heaven. He visualises these things to create heaven on earth.
He says that in the splendour of harvest and of moonlight, heaven lies all over. He finally says that those, like poets, who have experienced this nature knows that there is heaven on Earth and not anywhere else. By imbibing & spilling the song of nectar, the poet does create heaven on earth. The poet portraits that only the one who is dwelled in this experience can create heaven on earth.
