Write a character sketch of the Happy Prince. What are his defining traits, and elaborate them with examples from the text?

- The story is about a statue of a Prince (Happy Prince).

The very first paragraph describes the Prince, stating that the statue of a prince stood on a high platform overlooking the city. The statue of the Happy Prince looked gorgeous; hence everyone in the town loved to see their Prince. The Prince was called a "Happy Prince" because he was a happy person when the Prince was alive. After his death, a giant statue was established in the city's center in his commemoration. The statue of the Prince was covered with thin layers of gold. Instead of eyes, he had two bright sapphires, and large red ruby glowed on his sword-hilt. When the Prince was alive, he was happy and didn't see sorrow at all. Now, as he was a tall statue, he was able to witness all the sadness and sufferings that the needy people faced in their daily lives.

Once the statue saw a child who was not feeling well. Still, his mother could not give him oranges when he asked for oranges as his mother was poor. Hence the Prince'sPrince's statue requested the bird for a favor that to take out the ruby from the handle of his sword then give it to the child's mother. The bird took pity on the Prince and became ready to support him in his desire to ease the pain of the lower and needy people. As requested by the Prince, the bird took out the ruby from the handle of his sword and gave it to the child's mother.

To help the other needy people in the city, the statue requested the swallow (bird) to take away his two sapphire stones and the gold layers from the figure to help the needy people. Hence this proves how kind-hearted the Prince was.
